Shelter & Private Picnic Reservations

Shelter and Private Picnic Reservations begin the first working day in February. Shelters and Private Picnic areas can be reserved from April through October and the cost ranges from $25 to $150 for shelters and $60 to $255 for the Private Picnic areas (non-refundable) for the entire day. Private Picnic Areas Red Fox (P1) & Blue Heron (P2) and Whitetail (Jolly 1) have water & electric. 

To reserve a shelter please call Campbell County Parks at 859-547-3681.

Shelter and Private Picnic area reservations must be paid within 15 days of making the reservation. Payment can be made by check, money order, cash, or credit card. If payment is not made within 15 days, your reservation will be canceled. Reservations made within 15 days of the reserved date must be paid at the time of the reservation.

Shelters and Private Picnic area available for rental at the following parks:

  • A.J. Jolly Park has 1 large shelter and 2 Private Picnic areas located near the lake. The large shelter is within walking distance to restrooms and playground equipment and has electricity and water. The Private Picnic areas are private areas next to the lake with a large shelter, playground equipment, restrooms and also has electricity and water.
  • Pendery Park has 4 shelters. One shelter is large and the other 3 are medium size. The port-a lets, playgrounds, and basketball court are within walking distance. The shelters range in price from $25 to $150.  All shelters have electricity.

Fishing at AJ Jolly Lake Prohibited in 2026

  • Park closes at dusk.
  • A valid Kentucky fishing license is required to fish in any of Kentucky’s public waters
  • You can purchase your fishing license at a number of Northern Kentucky retailers. You can also go online to purchase your license here
  • Kentucky Department of Fish & Wildlife stock AJ Jolly Lake with Saugeye annually, channel catfish every other year, and blue catfish every third year.
  • AJ Jolly Lake Fish Attractions can be viewed here
  • Night Fishing is permitted during the Camping Season on Thursday through Monday Nights only (excluding nights of festivals or events). Click here to read the Night Fishing Rules.

KY Fish and Wildlife 2022 Fishing Forecast

Bluegill Poor Abundant, Most fish are less than 6 inches.
Catfish Good Good numbers of channel catfish over 12 inches present. Low numbers of blue catfish;
25-inch-plus blue catfish possible. Flatheads present in lake.
Crappie Fair  Abundant, most between 6 to 8 inches.
Largemouth bass Fair/Good Fair number of bass including good number of quality-size fish present.
Saugeye Fair/Good Stocked annually since 2013. Quality saugeye present; fish up to 25 inches are possible.

In partnership with the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife, Campbell County operates a Tree Recycling Program from late December through mid-January each year.  Residents can drop off live, undecorated trees to Pendery Park to be used for fish habitat in lakes across the state.

In partnership with Cohen Recycling, Campbell County is collecting non-working strands of holiday lights.  Drop off barrels can be found at several locations. The program runs December 1st - February 1st.

In the City of Highland Heights, a $112 million dollar pedestrian-scaled, mixed-use “town and gown” style district is being developed at the Northern Kentucky University (NKU) campus gateway. At full buildout, the site is expected to feature new restaurants, retail space, market-rate apartments, a hotel, structured parking and great new public gathering spaces. While at the same time, across the street will house an approximately 65,000-square-foot medical office building that will be occupied by St. Elizabeth Healthcare and OrthoCincy.

Just a few feet to the east is an $80 million expansion of Newport on the Levee-Aqua on the Levee.  “Aqua” features 238 luxury apartments, 8,300 square feet of retail, an 800-car parking garage, and the region's first Aloft hotel.

New Riff was founded in 2014 by Ken Lewis, a visionary Kentucky liquor retailer and entrepreneur; and in 2018 expanded its roots in the urban core. This expansion features a barrelhouse, used to store 3,600 barrels; along with a new rickhouse to hold around 18,000 barrels.
