Event Description:

This class is designed to provide HazMat Training for the Awareness-Level for first responders who are likely to witness or discover a hazardous materials release and will initiate a response sequence by notifying the proper authorities of the release. It will also incorporate hands-on training in the use of Safety Data Sheet Shipping papers, location occupancies, placarding and labeling. 1910.120 and KAR 803 and concentrate on detecting a hazardous situation and making the appropriate calls to secure the scene and prevent contamination.

You will also learn how to use the Emergency Response Guidebook. The OSHA 1910.120 standard outlines the minimal training required of each employee that has the potential of witnessing or discovering a hazmat incident. These individuals include firefighters, police officers, emergency medical personnel, security guards, and certain industrial workers. From informal detection methods to protective actions, your personnel will be fully informed of their responsibilities and have the knowledge to safely carry out the duties of the hazmat awareness level.

This course is open to all Emergency Management, Safety Officers, Law Enforcement, Search and Rescue, Fire, Public Health and Safety, Fire, Medical, Environmental, public works or Emergency Personnel having responsibility for mitigation of a hazardous materials incident.
