COURSE DESCRIPTION:
Wilderness environments create special situations not usually encountered in an urban or suburban environment. This ASHI Wilderness First Aid class, instructs first aid providers in a remote outdoor setting to be better prepared to respond when faced with limited resources, longer times to care for someone, and decisions about when and how fast to evacuate an ill or injured person.
An information-filled slide presentation covering wilderness and remote first aid from a basic understanding of emergency response in an outdoor setting to specific techniques and considerations for a wide range of injuries and illnesses.
Course topics include:
• Preparation and Assessment
• Preventing and Caring for Injuries and Illnesses
• Environmental Hazards
• Other Wilderness Considerations
PARTICIPANT CRITERIA:
• This training is open only to ACTIVE MEMBERS OF THE CAMPBELLL COUNTY LANDSAR UNIT and ALEXANDRIA POLICE VIPS.
• Pre-registration is required, no one not pre-registered will be seated for this training.
• While there is no cost to those who complete this course, a $40.00 fee will be assessed to any individual who registers and fails to attend the training WHO DOESN’T WITHDRAW AT LEAST 48 HOURS PRIOR TO THE START OF THE TRAINING. This will cover the cost of the student manual and course materials that must be purchased for each student.
• Students must attend the entire course to receive a certificate.
