Course Description
This course introduces the skills and planning considerations required to manage large numbers of people who are not affiliated with an experienced relief organization, but who want to help in disasters.  These helpers or “spontaneous volunteers” are generally well motivated and sincerely want to help, but if their efforts and resources are not coordinated effectively, they could be counterproductive, wasteful, and often place a strain on the disaster area. Class begins at 8:30a.m. EDT & ends at 4:30p.m. EDT.

Student Criteria
This course is open to all local government officials, emergency management staff, state and local leaders of key voluntary organizations, (i.e., those affiliated with a local or State VOAD), who have responsibility for planning, coordinating,  implementing, and/or operating the donations management function at the State and the local level. Perquisites are not mandatory but recommended IS-100, IS -200, IS-700, & IS800.

Special Notes
Advance student registrations are REQUIRED and must be received by September 10, 2020. Maximum # of students’ seats available is 40. You are considered accepted as a student in this class upon receipt of your application by this office so you will not receive a letter acknowledging that acceptance.
