COURSE DESCRIPTION: The “When Disaster Strikes: Prepare, Act, Survive” course is designed to teach and encourage community members impacted by a disaster to prepare, take preservation actions and perform, as appropriate, light search and rescue response to aid their family and other community members in the immediate aftermath of a natural disaster or human-made incident. This course is not intended for the professional responder however would be beneficial for the responder’s family. The training does not qualify the participants to serve in an emergency responder role. Topics • Developing a mindset to prepare, act and survive in a disaster involving your community • Using survival strategies to rescue and care for yourself, your family, and your pets during and in the immediate aftermath of an event • Providing assistance in the search, light rescue, care, and safety of your neighbors
PARTICIPANT CRITERIA: The target audience encompasses the whole community, including, but not restricted to: • Religious Organizations • Volunteer Fire Departments • Community Emergency Response Teams • Youth Organizations • American Red Cross and other NonGovernmental Organizations • Interested Members of the Community

Delivered by National Emergency Response and Rescue Training Center (NERRTC), Texas Engineering Extension Service (TEEX), member of National Domestic Preparedness Consortium (NDPC).
