COURSE DESCRIPTION: This eight-hour awareness-level course is designed to increase the knowledge of first responders in recognizing and characterizing the different types of rail cars, potential leaks, and courses of action to be taken based on initial site assessment. The course will increase participants' knowledge of safety and hazardous conditions that may exist at the scene, and will allow them to become familiar with safe practices adopted by the railroad industry. This course has been developed by The University of Findlay and is delivered in an instructor-led format.
PARTICIPANT CRITERIA: Public Safety (specifically law enforcement and fire), HazMat Teams, EMS, Public Works, local emergency planners, pertinent federal and state agencies, and other community stakeholders.

SPONSORSHIP: This Course is sponsored by the Campbell County Office of Emergency Management and the Kentucky office of Homeland Security. Delivered by the Rural Domestic Preparedness Consortium; Eastern Kentucky University. The Rural Domestic Preparedness Consortium (RDPC) was established by Congress and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to develop and deliver relevant all-hazards training in support of rural homeland security requirements. All training delivered by the University of Findlay is certified by DHS and offered tuition-free to the nation’s emergency response community and associated stakeholders.
